According to the market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), shipments of PC computers are expected to drop by nearly 8% this year, and by 2015 tablets will overtake the entire PC market, including both portables and desktop devices.
"What started as a sign of tough economic times has quickly shifted to a change in the global computing paradigm with mobile being the primary benefactor," said Ryan Reith, program manager for IDC's mobile trackers, in a statement. "Tablets surpassing portables in 2013 and total PCs in 2015, marks a significant change in consumer attitudes about compute devices and the applications and ecosystems that power them." Read more...

Mozilla is teaming up with Taiwanese company Hon Hai Precision Industry — better known as Foxconn — to launch a new device running the Firefox OS.
Mozilla confirmed the partnership to Reuters and although the company wouldn't share the exact nature of the device, it is believed to be a tablet. Mozilla is expected to unveil the plans at Focus Taiwan on June 3.
Mozilla has already signed partnerships with Alcatel (TCL), Huawei, ZTE and LG for Firefox phones but this would be its first tablet initiative.
Foxconn makes most of its money from Apple but is reportedly looking to diversify its customer base. It already makes Android devices but this would be its first foray into the Firefox OS space. Read more...

A Russian Soyuz spacecraft carrying an American astronaut, an Italian astronaut and a Russian cosmonaut will launch on the second-ever express trip to the International Space Station Tuesday.
NASA's Karen Nyberg, the European Space Agency's Luca Parmitano and Russia's Fyodor Yurchikhin are scheduled to launch to space from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan onboard a Russian Soyuz spaceship at 4:31 p.m. EDT, arriving at the space station about six hours later.

PayPal is withholding payment from a 17-year-old German hacker who found a vulnerability on its website, the teen claims.
Robert Kugler is not subject to PayPal's Bug Bounty program because he is not yet 18, according to PC World. Kugler will reach that milestone next March. Kugler told the publication that he found the bug on May 19, but PayPal responded via email that he was not subject to the program.
PayPal representatives could not be reached for comment. PayPal's Terms of Service for Bug Bounty don't mention an age guideline.
It's not clear how much Kugler would have received for identifying this vulnerability. Google has a similar program that pays anywhere from $100 to $20,000, depending on the issue. Facebook pays $500. Kugler has found bugs for Mozilla, and received as much as $1,500 in return, according to PC World. Read more...

Ever get stuck inside an EF4 tornado? No? That's probably a good thing, judging by this stormchaser footage posted to YouTube Monday evening.
The footage was taken by Brandon Ivey and Sean Casey, who drove their custom 14,300-pound "tornado intercept vehicle" into the heart of a violent tornado in Kansas to record nature's fury from the inside
The pair clocked wind speeds at 150-175 miles per hour before "the tornado ripped the instruments off the top of the [vehicle]," per the video description. The footage is currently on the front page of Reddit.

75% of ad agency executives say that online video ads are more effective than traditional TV ads, compared with just 17% who say they are less effective. That sentiment is shared when comparing online video ads with social media and search advertising ads as well. Ad executives feel that online video ads are also more effective than direct response and display ads, a new eMarketer report found.

Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky will shake hands with top executives at Facebook, Google and eBay on a fundraising tour through Silicon Valley later this week.
Paul will begin his trip Thursday at Facebook's headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif., where he'll take a tour and meet with Facebook higher-ups (no word on whether Zuckerberg will attend). Facebook has played host to conservative lawmakers before, welcoming Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) back in September 2011.
Paul will then disengage from the tech world for a moment to deliver a speech to the Hoover Institute. He'll then hop back in the Silicon Valley saddle with a visit to Google to meet with executives and answer questions from Google employees from around the world who are sending them in online.
